Then, she was confined in a cramped cage with a chicken wire floor, so the owner did not have to clean it. Later, she broke her leg, and it was left untreated for years. Ultimately, the leg had to be amputated...

A dog named Tegon have the ability to glow in the dark. Tegon was cloned dogs produced by South Korean scientists to study human diseases, like Alzheimers and Parkinsons.

"Tegon can shine under ultraviolet light if given the antibiotic doxycycline," said Lee Byeong-chun, chairman of the research team from Seoul National University (SNU).

Tegon who was born in 2009 was not the first cloned dog produced SNU. In 2005 there Snuppy, whose name is born from an egg cell 2000 trial which later grew to 1,000 embryos. Of that total, only one tail produced Snuppy the Afghan hound.

The same process is then implemented to make Tegon, a type of female beagle dogs (hounds small). The difference, Tegon is the first cloned dog can shine in the dark with a light green color. Uniquely, its rays can dihidupmatikan if Tegon given certain antibiotics through their food.

Ability to turn on and turn off the color gene is important in research. Scientists can monitor the effects of a substance is added to the gene. For example, beta-amyloid gene known to cause damage to nerve function in Alzheimers disease. With these genes turn on and monitor neurological function afterwards, can yield clues about the development of Alzheimers.

"Making Tegon opens new horizons given an injection of genes that can make this puppy shine can be replaced with the genes causing fatal diseases in humans," said Byeong-chun. This study deliberately using dogs as experimental animals because there are about 268 diseases that can be equally diidap by humans and dogs.

The results were published in international journals Genesis. Scientists spent five years and research costs by 3.2 billion won to make the dog and do various tests required for verification purposes.

I am often asked questions about dogs behavior on car rides.    There are some pretty easy things you can to change how your dog behaves for the ride along.

There are a couple of reasons why your dog maybe making the trip miserable.  It may be even unsafe for the driver if hes bouncing around.

Common Reasons -- Its important to determine what the root of the issue may be.

• Hes miserable.   Maybe hes scared or even carsick for the ride.
• Hes so excited to get to somewhere!

Lets take a look at what you can do to make car rides more enjoyable and safer for everyone.

Doggie Car Sickness:

• If your dog is prone to car sickness, its not much different that you being car sick.   
• Consider not feeding him before the outing.   Less food on the belly means less food for you to clean up! 
• Consider giving him a Ginger supplement or even an antacid.   
• Over the Counter Dramamine is an option, but can make the sleep.   Dosage is approximately 2 to 4 milligrams for every pound the dog weighs.
• Check with your vet for proper dosage and any issues with other meds your dog may be taking or health conditions.

Doggie Car Anxiety:

• Anxiety can be present for many reasons.   
• Getting sick in the car previously.  His only car rides may have been to vet.  Or his last ride may have been to the shelter.   Or something traumatic could have happened along the way.  (remember they are very associative creatures)
• Scary thing is in the car or at the end of the ride, even though we may not know exactly what that is.
• Consider Melatonin as a slight calming medication.  Or Calming treat, calming collars, etc.   Anxiety wraps can be effective as well.  But these are not solutions -- just tools to help you create change.  
• Melatonin in my experience just helps take the edge off rather than making them sleepy.
• Dosage:   typically consider 2mg per 35 pounds of weight administered up to 3 times per day.
• Again -- check with your vet before administering.  
• Start with a desensitization process.   
• Feed Fido in the car for a few days but dont go anywhere.

• Spend some short intervals in the car just hanging out, without even turning on the engine.  Build your way to starting the car, backing down the drive, and eventually a short trip to somewhere fun and enjoyable.

• Rinse and repeat a lot to help change how he feels about the car.
• It might take you a few minutes a day for several weeks to make the desired level of improvement.    
  

Doggie Car Excitement:

• Wohoo, were going to the park!   Were going to get French Fries/treats or pick up his favorite kid, or he gets to bark at strangers along the way just to say "Hi, Im here!"  (Yes, its fun to him).    (remember, they are associative, so we create reasons for them to love the ride)
• If your dog isnt listening to you at home or under low distraction environments, its not likely the car ride will be enjoyable.
• Work on a Good Down/Stay and a good "Place!" command or work on Crate Training.    And implement these skills in the car.    You have to practice at home before you ever start the car and take a trip.   Create mock experiences so that you have hands free and attention to give to him to address the training.   
• A good car ride is really nothing more than holding the Place command for the trip!
• Implement this and youll both be much happier. 

Training rules apply all the time and everywhere.   The car is just another distraction and it will take some training and reinforcement for him to modify his behavior.  It also takes a little bit of change on your part to create the desired outcome.

Be sure to also consider appropriate safety measures like safety harnesses, seat belts, tethering the crate to the car, etc for added safety in the event of an emergency.

How to stop your dog rolling in muck

The first thing to know is that it is a completely natural thing for him/her to do! What they are doing is masking their own scent so that they are better able to hunt undetected! It is a throw back to their wolf days.

Next... you dont want them to do it!?!

If they are regular offenders your best option is to try to break them of the habit by stopping it happening. So keep them on a lead when out walking so that they cannot access any muck. Keep treats in your pocket and if you see any muck in your path keep a tight hand on the lead, and offer a treat to distract them. When they begin to ignore the muck and pay attention to you instead, then you are beginning to make progress.

When they are next let off the lead call them back to you regularly, talk to them in a soft voice, play with them, and give them treats when they obey your commands. You need to be the centre of their attention, they need to want to come back to you because it is fun! The recall is one of the most important things they can learn... both for keeping them away from muck, and other problems, and for the sake of safety.

If this is a new vice for them, then when you see them about to commit the crime - say ah-ah in a loud and extremely harsh voice. Hopefully, this will distract them. Then recall them to you and give them a treat for returning. You will need to be alert to what they are doing at all times.

It is far easier to stop a bad habit from forming than to correct it once formed!
